Hello Everyone and welcome to Works In Progress Wednesday. I didn’t post a quilting update on Sunday because I wanted to wait until I had County Fair completely finished. It is now finished and I’ll have pictures of it in my next post. For today, I have two cross stitch finishes!

The first finish is In My Garden by Blackbird Designs from the Sewing Club book. I started working on it in June 2021 and stitched it for the #bbdweekendsal on Instagram. I stitched it on the first weekend of the month for 4 months, then never picked it up until last weekend. It only took 3 hours to finish it!

In My Garden is stitched on 36 ct Winter Moon linen by Zweigart, 1 over 2. I substituted a few of the colors or used the DMC conversion. There are several counting errors that I had to account for (I’m not telling where), but I made it all work out.

I finished it on matboard with batting and mounted it on a background matboard, also with batting. I’ve had a block sign for Fall from Michael’s for several years and was finally able to use it. The color of the plaid sides goes perfectly with some of the light browns in the stitched piece. I may add a rustic safety pin with buttons as a little bit of extra bling if I have one.

The next finish is Patriotic Rose by Threadwork Primitives. I finally got the red right for those who have been following along and I think it’s perfect. I didn’t have the called for red so ended up using DMC 22. I also changed the blue in the flag. It’s supposed to be the darker color in the leaves, but I wanted it blue so I changed it to Classic Color Works Dungarees. It’s stitched on 32 ct Platinum by Zweigart, 2 over 2.

We bought the frame in a shop in Fredericksburg that makes wood furniture. It’s reclaimed barn wood and I think it’s perfect for this piece. This one is a gift and I plan to stitch it again. I was going to stitch mine on a higher count fabric, but I like this one so much I may have to get another frame and stitch this size again. By the way, the flag quilt is a design by Little Quilts from years ago.

I took some of my stitching time over the weekend to bind my quilt so I only have two WIPs to share today. I’m sorry I didn’t iron them, but I ran out of time on Tuesday. I had errands in the morning and by the time I was able to take pictures and write this post, it was getting late in the afternoon.

On Winter Rose Manor, I stitched the small urn on the left side since last week and almost have the second floor finished. I had the windows outlined, but I added the curtains and started filling in the house. I’m going away this weekend and I’m going to try to get the first floor door and windows outlined so I can fill in. It will be something easy to work on while I’m away.

I made a little progress on Seasons of the Heart – Spring by The Blueflower. I stitched one of the three bunnies and he’s a cutie.

I’ve ordered a few new market releases and have plans for a couple of more. One of them, Seasons of the Heart by With Thy Needle and Thread is supposedly a market only release and some places were already sold out. I found both books at Kittenstitcher.com. The other of course is A Heart Remembers by Blackbird Designs. I also ordered a kit from Luminous Fiber Arts and want to order one of Hands On Designs new charts. Next week I’ll go through the charts in these books and look at the fabric and floss requirements and order what I need. I do wish I had a local shop nearby. I think the closest to me is an hour away.

I’ll continue to plug away at Winter Rose Manor and work on the other spring stitches. As far as quilting goes, I have made one block in my nephew’s quilt so I’ll be continuing with that. I have several ideas for a small wall hanging for spring and today starts a new Moda Blockheads Quilt-A-Long. I’ll be taking a look at that and see if I want to do it. I did the first one but I didn’t like all the different sizes of the blocks in the other two.

That’s it for today. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.

I always love how you finish your cross-stitch pieces. I really struggle with that. Beautiful finishes, Brenda!

Thank you so much, Sigi. I watch a lot of FlossTube and see things on Instagram that I like to copy for my finishes. Most of the flat finishes is gluing and taping. Sometimes I feel like a kid 🙂

Love the finishes and the new pattern books. I have some starts I’ve got kitted up once I finish Gathering Snowflakes which is “almost” there!

Brenda, what is the little quilt backing the new pattern books? I love the fabrics. I am glad to be reminded of Little Quilts. I have one of their old books and I am going to get it out and review their precious quilts.

The fabric is Strawberry Jam and Sunny Side up by Corey Yoder. The pattern is by Sherri McConnel (A Quilting Life), Sew Strippy that came in a Sew Sampler Box. She has a similar pattern on her web site.
