County Fair Quilt Finished!

Hello Everyone and welcome back. I’m so happy to say that my County Fair quilt is finally finished!

I started County Fair, designed by Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree and Co, in September, 2019. I used a half yard bundle of Fig Tree’s Christmas Figs fabrics and still have enough left for some other projects. I cut out all the blocks that fall and put it away until the beginning of 2021. I made a plan so I could finish it last year. Obviously that didn’t happen, but I did finish the top in mid November. I knew that I couldn’t get it quilted during December so waited until this year to finish it. I changed the border setting from the original design, using three different size borders instead of four the same size.

I quilted County Fair on my Pfaff QE 4.0 sewing machine, quilting free motion feathers in the green and red units and swirls in the sashing. I then used the ruler foot and a straight ruler to quilt the radiating lines in the background and the straight lines in the sashing and inside border.

In the two outside borders, I quilted echoing curvy lines using green Aurifil thread, no. 1231. The red Aurifil is 2265 and the background is 2000. I think the green really looks good in the red border fabric. Also, the fabric colors in this picture are true to the actual fabric colors.

You can see the quilting a little better on the back. It does take a lot longer to custom quilt on a sewing machine, especially working with the rulers. It took me three weeks and approximately 35.5 hours to quilt it. The backing fabric is from the Christmas Figs II line. I’m really pleased with the quilt and will be happy to have a new Christmas Quilt to cuddle under or display next Christmas.

Once I finished quilting, I started on the blocks for the Ambience quilt (by Zen Chic) that I’m making for my nephew. I’ve made two blocks so far.

While I’m sewing the Ambience blocks, I’m going to sew the rest of the Autumn Star blocks. I was able to make one of these blocks while making 2 of the Ambience blocks. That works out well because I had 6 of the star blocks to finish and 13 of the Ambience blocks when I started.

That’s it for me today. I hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by.
