New Project Bags and WIP Wednesday, Oct 13, 2021

Hello Everyone and welcome to WIP Wednesday. I’m just barely getting my post up today and have been quiet on the blog because I have been working on project bags.

I had the fabric cut for some of the bags in September, but last week, I cut the rest of the fabric, the fusible fleece and interfacing. I can make a single bag in an afternoon, but it took a week and a half to get 10 bags made.

The bags are all fall themed so I had hoped to have them done earlier. I made 7 bags with the vinyl in front so you can see your charts. I like to keep the floss key in front so I can refer to it and not have an extra sheet of paper floating around.

I also made three bags without vinyl for those that don’t care for the vinyl. These are lined with a light color to help see what’s inside easier. All the bags are quilted and have zipper pulls.

I still got my morning and evening stitching in although on a few mornings, I worked on the bags for a short period of time, too. I lost a whole day last week because I had an eye checkup and my eyes were dilated most of the afternoon. Since my husband took me, we went to lunch, then spent the afternoon at a brewery on a mountain ridge. It was not a picture perfect day, but still nice to relax during the week when it wasn’t busy.

Speaking of my morning stitch, I finished the sky in Scenic Farm and started on the background leaves. I’m really looking forward to getting this one finished!

On Sunday, I worked on Cinnamon Stars by Plum Street Samplers as my stitch for the day. I was stitching it on 36 ct Sparrow by Luminous Fiber Arts, 1 over 2, but I just wasn’t happy with the coverage. The white wasn’t showing up well and I ended up changing it to DMC 3865, and still didn’t like it (top row on the left above the stones). I tried 2 over 2 on the right side and liked it much better. I also went back over the stones on the right with another strand of thread. I think the center of the house will be okay, but I will add a strand to the doors, windows and roof. I will take out the pumpkins and and restitch them 2 over 2. I know it’s a lot of work, but I want to be happy with the finished piece.

I’ve been working on two of my fall smalls this week.

I finished the pumpkin and side borders on A Raven’s Reply by Luminous Fiber Arts. I haven’t decided if I’ll stitch the bottom “Nevermore” section or not, that’s why I stopped the borders where they are. I’m stitching this on Misty’s 40 ct Porcelain, 1 over 2.

I’ve also been steadily stitching on the Philanthropic Pumpkin by Hands On Design. I love the colors! I’m using the called for DMCs on the 32 ct Antique White that was supplied in the kit. This one is tricky! It’s the first time I’ve worked on a symmetrical design like this so I do need to be careful when I pick it up. I’ve almost stitched in the wrong direction several times. It’s a good thing I have that “T” in the corner for top. I check it each time I pick it up now.

We have talked about going somewhere to hike on Friday and Saturday is the reenactment of the Civil War Battle of Cedar Creek that we will go to if it doesn’t rain. We went to a reenactment in Georgia a long time ago and it was impressive. I hope you all have some fun things to go do, too.
