New Adventures are in Our Future

Hello Everyone and welcome back to what is usually a stitching or quilting update. This is actually a quilting update, but I have some other fun news to share.

In April, we said goodbye to our Rpod! I was sad to see it go because we’ve had fun camping in it, but my husband said that he was ready to do a little more traveling in an RV and he felt this wouldn’t hold up to it. He started looking around and in March, we put a down payment on a new trailer that would be custom built for us.

It’s not much to look at now, but this is our new fiberglass Escape 23 Travel Trailer being built in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. They just started building it at the beginning of June and it should be shipped to us in mid-July. We went with the queen bed floor plan and we were able to customize the interior, from the flooring to the colors of the cabinets and upholstery and the outside graphics. We won’t do any big trips with it this year, but have some ideas for next year. But our idea of a big trip will be around a week or so. I don’t think we’ll be one of these travelers that go out for weeks or months at a time. The longest trip we took in the Rpod was when we brought from Georgia to Virginia. That was just at a week long. We’re looking forward to getting it and spending a few nights in it locally to check everything out before we take it on the road.

So, since we are getting new trailer, I thought a new quilt would be in order. That’s what I spent so much time doing right before and after our trip. It has gone through several iterations, but I have started to make the blocks and assemble it.

This is the non fabric EQ8 version of the quilt. I am using fabrics from Camille Roskelley’s Shoreline and Nantucket Summer. The dark blue is Moda Marbles Nautical Blue and the medium blue is a Bella Solid in French Blue. I do have to use a couple of the greens from my stash to have enough of those.

I have the center of the quilt complete. I’m working on it in sections and it has taken a lot of planning to find the best way to assemble the quilt. I am making the blocks and will be piecing it together in sections.

I finished piecing these Friendship Stars late yesterday and have to make another set. The hardest blocks to make will be the trees. I need to use templates to make the tree pieces. I could have used foundation paper piecing, but I would need more fabric. I have a layer cake and some fat quarters of Nantucket Summer and a fat eighth bundle and a few extra pieces of Shoreline, but not enough in the greens. That’s why I needed to pull in a few from stash.

I will have the top done by the time we get the Escape, and I hope to have it quilted by then. I have extra fabric to make some throw pillows, too.

I haven’t had as much time as I would like to work on it because of visitor’s (son and daughter) at different times, then we went away for a few days. Our son is also coming back next week because he found out he had some extra time off for the 4th of July, but I’ll work on it as much as I can. I’m also trying to squeeze in some cross stitch finishing and making progress on the Cinnamon Splendor quilt.

Next week I’ll have a cross stitch update for you. I’ve been stitching lots of patriotic and may even have a few fully finished. Until then, have a great rest of your week and thanks for stopping by.
