Hello Everyone and welcome to my weekly quilting update. I’ve had another good week in my sewing studio! I finished two quilt tops, one was a new start, and almost finished a third. I had felt a little lethargic about my sewing for the past year and a half until about two months ago. I’m not sure what changed, but I want to be sewing. Maybe it’s because I’ve actually visited some good quilt shops recently, the one in Georgia and then Pennsylvania last week. There’s something about going into a shop and seeing all the pretty fabric that appeals to you to get your creativity flowing. My local shop is okay, but the fabric that it carries doesn’t speak to me very often.
Anyway, let’s get to the quilting!

I finished the Jellyroll Sizzle quilt top and I’m really pleased with it! I even made the backing.

Then I made another one! (Almost) I’ll be adding a two inch white border to make it 40″ square. This one is a donation quilt for the local hospital. I finished this much on Friday with my quilt group. The fabrics are from The Shades of Summer by Heather Peterson for Riley Blake Designs. The Rolie Polie came with 21 strips and was in a Sew Sampler Box from FQS about 2 years ago. I’m glad that I’ve finally been able to use some of those fabrics from the boxes.

After reading Julie’s, The Crafty Quilter, newsletter last weekend, I felt I needed to make a new small patriotic quilt for my garage door. She had a link to a free Quilts of Valor quilt that she had designed several years ago. I’ve been thinking about using the Friendship Star block in a quilt for a little while now and this layout was perfect. I used some of Minick and Simpson’s Mackinac Island and Bell Isle fabrics for it. It doesn’t scream patriotic, but will go nicely with my collection of those quilts. I pulled an old fabric for the backing and still need to piece it, then I’ll be ready for a big week of quilting. I can turn this one either way, but I think I like it with the horizontal rows.
This week I need to cut fabrics for three Moda Blockhead 4 blocks (yes, I’m behind again) and finish the baby Jellyroll Sizzle. I’ll also baste and start quilting the Friendship Star Mini and my Lakeside Jellyroll Sizzle. I have to see if I have a backing for the baby quilt.
That’s it for me today! I hope you have a great start to your week and thanks for stopping by!

Looks like you had quite a productive time in the sewing studio! I like all three of your tops. Happy quilting.

Love both of your Jelly Roll Sizzle Quilts – the blue with all the muted fabrics and the cheery, bright one. Each is so beautiful in their own way – as is your sweet patriotic Wall Hanging.

Thank you, Sigi! I’ve added the borders to the bright quilt and it really makes the colors stand out.

I love the first blue top. I love what the block does when surrounded by others. Great design. ;^)

These look great, and I understand about the quilt shop. I went to Tiny Stitches yesterday since the one near me is closed on Sundays and boy all the fun fabrics they have at that shop. I like my local shop, but like you said sometimes fabric doesn’t speak to you. I’m tempted to drive the distance and take a class maybe this fall. I left very inspired!
