New Leaders and Enders Project

Hello Everyone! Today I have a few new things to share with you.

First up though, I did manage to get the two Moda Blockhead 4 blocks made that I had cut out a few weeks ago. The large one is Block # 7 and is supposed to have a checkerboard inside. Since I’m so far behind, I decided to use this diamond fabric. If I had tried to use it in the smaller block, the pattern would have been lost. The small block is Bonus Block 4. I really like this block and changed the color placement a little bit. The fabrics are from my Bonnie and Camille collection. I’m still hoping to catch up this week on these blocks, at least get them cut out.

I cut out a new project this week, the Jelly Roll Sizzle Quilt, a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. I saw Pat Sloan make it a few months ago on her morning videos. The quilt uses 2 1/2″ strips and I don’t have many of those sets, but I have a few and am trying to find ways to use them. I want to have a true picnic quilt that I can take out with us and thought the color and design would be perfect for that.

I’ve had this strip set, A Day at the Lake, by Wilmington Fabrics for a few years. My good friend Lydia gave it to me and it’s time to use it. My plan is to use it as a leaders and enders project while I’m sewing other things. For those of you who don’t know, leaders and enders are those scraps of fabrics you use at the beginning and ending of your sewing so there is a smooth sewing transition to and from your quilt pieces. My Pfaffs definitely benefit from using them. Instead of using scraps, I’ll be sewing a few of these units together at the beginning and ending of sewing other quilt units. I’ve already sewn the two strips together and cut them into three pieces. They are ready for the corner flip and sew triangles, then can be be sewn into blocks.

I had enough fabric left from each strip set to make a 4″ 4-patch. I’m going to use those to make a small table mat.

While I was making the other project bags, I used this fabric to make a cute bag for my cousin as a gift. She requested it after seeing the drawstring bag I made my daughter. I have the companion fabric cut to make a bag for me in the next go round. This is special fabric given to me by Lydia and I’m using if for personal use. It was just too cute not to show.

That’s it for today. We are off to enjoy a beautiful, cool afternoon with my son. (I’m writing this on Saturday). My husband and son had two long fishing days and are planning another day on Sunday. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by.

Lovely blocks and cute bag, Brenda! The Jelly Roll Sizzle Quilt pattern sounds like a fun one, and I too enjoyed seeing Pat Sloan’s Quilt from this. Enjoy sewing with this cute fabric.

Thanks you, Sigi! I’ve printed out several free quilt patterns from FQS recently after seeing Pat make them. Now to find time to use up some of my fabric!

You do such a great job with figuring out what to do with different fabrics. Makes me wish I’d have mastered my sewing skills a long time ago especially since I had a great grandmother and 2 aunts who were phenomenal sewers!

Thanks, Lydia, but since you gave me that fabric several years ago, I think I’ve bought at least two patterns for it and have downloaded at least one other free pattern to use. Sometimes it takes a while for the fabric to talk to you!
