New Winter Table Runner Start

Hello Everyone and welcome back! Is everyone on the east coast ready for the storm. Some of you have probably already started getting some of the snow or mixed weather. Ours is supposed to start this afternoon. Monday is usually my grocery shopping day, so I went back to the store on Thursday to resupply fresh produce since I’m sure I won’t get out tomorrow. I’m hoping I’ll have enough to last until the following Monday and skip the store this week. Even though I was busy last week, running errands and doing a little shopping every morning, I did start a new table runner for my kitchen island.

I’m using the Banana Quilt pattern from the Perfect 10 Quilts by It’s Sew Emma. If you’ve watched any of Pat Sloan’s daily videos in December, you have probably seen her Banana Quilt. Here is a link where you can see it at the start of the video. I just really liked it and thought it would be easy and would make a nice table runner.

The book contains patterns to be used with a Layer Cake (10″ square fabrics). I needed the length of the table runner to be smaller, so I adjusted the block size and need 12 blocks for my runner. It was fun to get back to planning and readjusting the pattern. That’s one of my favorite parts of quilting. I selected 5 fabrics from my stash and cut what I needed. I’ve had the dark blue fabric by Sandi Gervais for years and never needed it until now. I think it’s perfect for a winter themed project. The background is a white on white print that I’ve also had for years.

I cut the fabric out one afternoon and finished all the blocks in another afternoon. There will be sashing between each of the blocks, it just wouldn’t fit on my small design board. I think it’s going to look great. I’m hoping to finish it completely and have it ready to share next week.

I also finished a Hexie flower, the white one, last weekend. These are 1″ hexies and it took several hours for me to finish it. I have three more to go. I’m going to machine applique them to the background fabrics when I’ve decided on those. I still don’t even have a plan for the mini quilt I’m going to make with them either. I’ll try to firm that up this week and select the fabrics for it.
