Embroidered Journal Cover

Hello Everyone! I hope you have had a good week. We had hoped to go camping one more time this week, but it has been rainy and cold here all week. It will probably be early spring before we get out again.

Today I want to share my  Journal Cover with you that I made using an embroidery design by Jenifer Reynolds of Jenny of Elefantz.

I have been keeping a quilt journal for years and plan to write a post just about that process. I have used several different journals, with the latest being Lori Holt’s Scrappy Project Planner. In October, I only had a few more pages left and needed another one.  I decided to go back to a system that I used before, Staples Arc System, which allows me to add pages as I go. I didn’t really care for the cover, so I thought I could make one.

Let’s start with the embroidery!

I made the “Sewing Circle” in late summer and it has been laying around while I decided what to do with it. The design was one of Jenny’s designs in her monthly Stitchery Club collections.  She made a pin cushion with hers. Do you notice a difference in the picture above and the journal cover?

I didn’t like the “Sewing Circle” for the cover, so I changed it to a simple monogram “B” for Brenda. I used scraps from my Bonnie and Camille fabric bin for the applique and used Bonnie and Camille’s collection of Cosmo floss that I bought several years ago.

The cover fabric is from B & C’s The Good Life collection.

Now for the Cover

This is the original cover and it’s by Martha Stewart. I would have bought it in Aqua, but they didn’t have any when I purchased this one. It’s okay, but I don’t like the “bling”, I’m really not in to shiny things. I watched several YouTube videos on making the covers, this one by Erica Arndt helped the most, and after some trial and error, made what I wanted.

What I wanted were pockets on the inside and didn’t see any like this. I did make notes (in my journal) so I can make another one. If I do, I will write a tutorial for making the pockets. The inside fabrics are also Bonnie and Camille from different collections.

IMG_7639.1There’s room in the pockets to keep pens, pencils, colored pencils, clips, notepad, etc., so I will have everything handy when we travel.

I know I will enjoy using it more now that it is prettied up with Jenny’s embroidery design and Bonnie and Camille’s fabric.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend.
