A Little About Me and Save the Bees Free BOM

Hello Everyone and welcome to The Quilting Nook for those of you popping in from Jacquelynne’s site. I’m pleased to be a featured blogger again this year for Jacquelynne Steves free Block of the Month, Save the Bees, which starts on Monday, August 6.

This is such a cute wall hanging and I’ve done something special with mine, I’ve made it half the original size. For those who follow me, you know I love to make mini quilts. The original will finish about 49″ x 54″ and mine will finish about  24″ x 27″. I had fun making the changes and working on a smaller scale. I hope some of you will join me in making the smaller version. I’ll have fabric requirements, cutting and piecing instructions to make the smaller size each month. To receive the free block patterns each month by email, you have to sign up on Jacquelynne’s site.

Now for a little about me. I love to sew and quilt! I’ve been sewing since I was 10 years old and made a poncho for 4-H. I used to sew a lot of my clothes and will occasionally still make a garment. Most of my sewing now involves quilting or craft sewing. I like to hand and machine applique and in the past few years, I’ve started to do embroidery. That’s one reason I like Jacquelynne’s patterns, I can combine applique and embroidery.

This is a block from last year’s BOM, I Love Home. You can see I added embroidered accents to the applique. I also love to free motion quilt on my Pfaff QE 4.0 domestic sewing machine.

I live just a little northwest of Atlanta, Ga and am married to a wonderful husband who supports my quilting habit. I have two young adult children, a son and a daughter. I like to swim laps and recently swam in my first Master’s Swim Meet. I graduated from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) with and engineering degree and also swam on the varsity team.

Besides quilting, one of my favorite things to do is travel and camp. I like to blog about that, too. If you want to see some of our travel destinations, check out the Travel category on the sidebar. Late last winter, we traded in our pop-up camper for a Rpod 179, a small travel trailer. We had a pop-up for 10 years and it was great with the kids, but now it’s just the two of us. The Rpod is perfect for two people.
