January Minis and More

Hello Everyone! Today I’m sharing my version of Home Town Mini by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life who is also one of the hosts, along with Michele, of the Minis and More Parade each month.

This was a fun mini to make and I love it in the mostly Blue Sky fabric by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts for Andover Fabrics. Perfect for a wintery setting. The sashing and border fabric is Trinket by Kathy Hall for Andover Fabrics. The backing fabric is from Kindred Spirits by Jill Shaulis of Yellow Creek Quilt Designs for Windham Fabrics.

You can see my quilting design, a swirly flower with double pebbles. I haven’t used the double pebbles before and I realized while I was quilting they took more time than regular pebbles. If I’m going to use this design, I will have to practice getting them more rounded.

My swirls are getting better though, so it’s all a work in progress. I used Aurifil 50 wt. cotton, number 2710. I like the light blue with these fabrics. The nice thing about the minis is that it gives me a chance to practice new quilting designs on a piece that is more maneuverable than a larger quilt would be. I quilted the mini on my Pfaff QE 4.0 domestic machine.

The mini looks great with my inherited tea set from my mother-in-law on the tea cart. The tea set is made by Hartley, Greens and Leeds Pottery of England.

It also looks good on my kitchen table, which is where it is now. I’ll use it through the winter until it’s time for something more springy. That’s one thing I love about making the minis, I can use them all over the house and they are so easy and quick to change out. Since I used a charm pack of the Blue Sky fabric, I have lots left. I may make some placemats to go with this.

Be sure to check out the rest of the parade with Michele and Sherri to see how everyone finished this cute little mini!

Thanks for stopping by!
