Hello Everyone! I hope you’re ready to join me in a quilt along to make the Winterville quilt by Camille Roskelley of thimble blossoms.
When I saw this pattern last fall, I decided I really wanted to make it. I didn’t have time to start it then, but I put it high on my list for 2018. I knew though, that if I didn’t have a plan, I would probably start it, then put it aside as other commitments had to get started and finished. There’s a graduation quilt, at least one T-shirt quilt, maybe 2 that need to be made this spring. I also need to finish my son’s quilt and start Jacquelynne Steves new BOM, plus I would like to finish my Moda Blockheads and the two Quilting Life BOM’s. So with all that going on, I needed a plan. I really would like to get it finished this summer so I can quilt it and have it ready for next winter.
So here’s my plan. This quilt is easily divided into manageable sections, so each month, starting in February, we’ll make a section and it can be finished by the end of July.
- February – buy pattern and select fabric (at least background and snowflakes), make the snowflake center and snowflake corner blocks
- March – Make the Holly and Berries Blocks and Tree Blocks
- April – Make 14 Star Blocks
- May – Make 14 Star Blocks
- June – Make the 12 House Blocks
- July – piece it all together
Because this is a medallion quilt, you can piece the sections together as you go, then you can probably finish it in June.
If you can’t find the pattern at your LQS, you can order it from thimble blossoms (this is the pdf) or from Fat Quarter Shop. You can purchase either a PDF download or paper pattern from either source.
I will host this quilt along here on my blog and on Instagram. If you aren’t on Instagram, you can send me progress photos a few days before the end of the month and I will post them here on my blog. If you are on Instagram, you can follow me @thequiltingnook and the #tqnwintervilleqal2018. I plan on doing two giveaways, one around April and the other at the end of the QAL. You’ll have to post pictures of your progress on Instagram using the hashtag above or send me your pictures to be eligible to win.
Now for the fabrics I’m using. The Vintage Holiday fabric by Bonnie and Camille won’t be available until April, but I wanted to use a dark background anyway plus fabrics that I already have.
I searched all through January for the background fabric. I wanted my village to have the feel of a cozy wintery night. I was thinking of a black or navy fabric with scattered dots to represent snow, but nothing too stark. I couldn’t find what I wanted, but I did find this navy blue with black in it. It’s Shadow Play by Maywood Studio. I already had the creamy dot, Sugar Plum Christmas by Bunny Hill Designs for Moda, in my stash which I’ll use for the snowflakes.
I’ve pulled some fabrics already, but I will probably be adding a few new fabrics, hmmm, maybe some Vintage Holiday! Some of these fabrics I’ve had for quite a while. There’s some older Kate Spain and Nancy Halvorsen, Sweetwater, BasicGrey and of course Bonnie and Camille.
So this is it! I hope you will join me in the quilt along to help me keep on track! Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, @thequiltingnook, and post pictures using #tqnwintervilleqal2018.
Thanks for stopping by and happy Winterville sewing!
