Hello Everyone! I know it’s been over a week since I posted, but we are currently visiting family in Virginia, first Fredericksburg, now Williamsburg. This afternoon, we are inside watching it snow, although this morning we were able to get out for a few hours to visit the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.
The museum was very well done and took you from the very beginning of the conflicts in Massachusetts through the writing of the Constitution. It has lots of artifacts, also. We decided we would go back in warmer weather to view the outdoor exhibits and tour the Yorktown Battlefield.
While in Fredericksburg, my sister and I took a trip to Great Falls, VA where Jinny Beyer has her quilt studio.
Don’t be fooled, it was cold that morning, in the low 20’s, but I wanted a picture.
These are the quilts on the wall going up the steps. The Lotus Quilt (blue star) was absolutely gorgeous. I love Jinny’s use of colors. You can purchase this as a kit and I was tempted, but at this point in time, I have so many other things going on that I thought I would let it go for now.
I did find fabric for the sashing for the Moda Blockheads BOW that is almost finished.
When the sales lady first pulled out that red, I said no, the pattern wasn’t what I was looking for. Then I picked up one of Jinny’s palette books and saw a fabric that was only 2″ wide and I said that’s the one. Guess what, it was the same fabric. The “black” fabric is also a very dark brown. Most of the blacks that I have seem to have a brown tone instead of a gray tone. (I did bring some blocks with me, but they are in the truck and I don’t want to go out in the cold and snow to get them).
This is the layout that I think I’m going to use. Half sashed in black, the other in red. The fabrics above are some that I’ve used in the blocks just to get and idea of what I wanted to do.
This is last week’s block, number 45. I think the cutting instructions were wrong for the 4 at a time red flying geese units so I’m 1/8″ short on those. I should be able to hide it when I sew the sashing on! Only three more to go.
One more thing before you go. Jacquelynne Steves is having a giant giveaway on her site to celebrate the end of the I Love Home BOM. You can still sign up and get the free patterns for the quilt until January 31. You can see more of my final quilt here.
I hope everyone has a great rest of the week. It’s been fun traveling and visiting, but I’m ready to get back home and sew. I have something special I’m bringing home to share soon, too. Thanks for stopping by!
