3rd Quarter Finish-A-Long and Minis and More

Hello everyone! I have my first Quarter 3 FAL to share today, July’s Minis and More project. You can find my Q3 list here.

Minis and More is hosted each month by Sherri and Michele. Make sure to check out their blogs on the 1st of August to see all the minis. They will announce August’s project then, too. Think about joining the parade. These are fun, quick projects and there is a giveaway each month.

For July, we picked our own project using a Christmas theme. I chose the mini Makeover of Sherri’s “Linked” pattern.

Her Linked quilt pattern is in the Summer 2016 Quilts and More magazine. The magazine also published this mini version. Here is my version.

When I saw Sherri’s large quilt in the magazine, it reminded me of construction paper garland we used to make for Christmas trees and thought it would be fun to make in Christmas fabrics. I was very pleased when I got to the end of the magazine and there was a mini version. I changed mine to have 7 rows and a 1″ border all around. It’s 16 1/2″ x  16 1/2″. The fabrics are all Nancy Halvorsen for Benartex Fabrics from my stash.

It will make a cute table topper to set Christmas decorations on.

I used Aurifil 50 wt thread to piece and quilt it. The links are stitched in the ditch with a walking foot using matching color thread.

Then I free motion quilted tiny feathers in the center squares and triangles with Number 2800, a light blue/green/grey, that matches with so many things. I really wanted the links to pop so I needed some dense quilting in the background fabric, but I also didn’t want it too modern looking by using straight lines or similar fillers. I thought the feathers worked well and didn’t hide the print in the fabric.

Just so you know, my math isn’t always perfect. I doubled the number of hourglass blocks that I needed, so now I have enough to make something else. Any suggestions? I’ve been playing with different layouts but haven’t hit on anything that thrills me yet.

Since we are talking about minis today, I wanted to tell you about a Teal Mini Swap that is benefiting Ovarian Cancer research.

It is being hosted and organized by Beth from EvaPaige Quilt Designs. You can find out more information about how the swap is organized here . She also has a Facebook page where you can find all the details and register . I hope you take the time to check this out for a worthy cause.

Check back with me after 6:00 PM today because I’m going to be offering a giveaway for a Lapapp. It is designed by my friend Joyce and makes your handwork less tiring.

Also tomorrow, Block 3 for Maggie’s First Dance BOM will be revealed. It’s my favorite block so stop back in to see what I did with the embroidery this month.

Thanks for stopping by.
